Tips for Best Results Dig a circular hole and push the collar firmly into the soil so there are no gaps at the base and it won’t blow away — slugs will find any way under. Weighing the collar down from the inside with a few stones is a good idea. Keep any leaves clear of the rim, as these act as a bridge into the collar. Apply copper tape or wool tape around the outside for a second line of defence.
